Bitcoin Light A New Chapter for CKBull
CKBull became the leading mobile wallet for the Nervos ecosystem, giving users a simple and secure way to manage CKB, participate in the Nervos DAO and access the network’s evolving functionality.
At the same time, the Nervos and Bitcoin communities increasingly overlap. Both ecosystems share a UTXO-based architecture and similar principles around security, decentralization, self-custody and long-term value.
To bridge that gap more completely, the Nervos Foundation asked our team to expand the wallet’s support to Bitcoin while preserving the functionality that made CKBull a reference for CKB users.
Bitcoin Light is the result.
More Than a New Name
Bitcoin Light is not simply a new version of CKBull. It has been developed as a new application, with a modern interface, a new architecture and a broader long-term vision.
The first release brings native support for two closely related networks:
- Bitcoin
- Nervos CKB
Users can hold, send and receive native BTC and CKB from the same mobile application. They can also continue accessing essential Nervos functionality, including the Nervos DAO.
Bitcoin Light establishes the foundation for a broader range of capabilities, including Lightning payments, Bitcoin protocols, UTXO-based assets, swaps and new Nervos features.
Why Bitcoin and Nervos?
Bitcoin and Nervos share more than a similar transaction model.
Both are built around strong principles of security, decentralization and user ownership. Nervos extends this foundation with a flexible architecture for programmable assets and applications while maintaining a philosophy closely aligned with Bitcoin.
This makes the two ecosystems naturally complementary.
For existing CKBull users, Bitcoin Light provides access to Bitcoin without leaving the wallet experience they already know. For Bitcoin users, it offers a simple entry point into Nervos and the additional capabilities available across its ecosystem.
Our objective is to bring both experiences together without sacrificing the qualities that matter most: security, usability and user control.
What Happens to CKBull?
Because Bitcoin Light has been built as a separate application, CKBull and Bitcoin Light will initially remain available as two different apps.
Existing CKBull users will not be required to move immediately. However, Bitcoin Light represents the future direction of the product, and users are encouraged to migrate in order to benefit from future updates and expanded functionality.
CKBull will continue operating during a transition period. Its support is expected to be phased out at a later stage, although no final date has yet been established.
Any changes will be communicated clearly and sufficiently in advance, together with the appropriate migration instructions.
Our Commitment to Nervos Remains
Expanding into Bitcoin does not mean moving away from Nervos.
Bitcoin Light is intended to remain one of the key wallet experiences for the Nervos community. We will continue supporting the network, integrating new ecosystem capabilities and improving how users interact with CKB and Nervos-based assets.
The expansion into Bitcoin is designed to strengthen that commitment by connecting Nervos with an ecosystem that shares many of its underlying principles.
We see Bitcoin and Nervos as closely related networks—almost part of the same family. Bitcoin Light has been created to make that relationship more accessible to users of both ecosystems.
This Is Only the Beginning
The first release establishes the foundations, but the long-term roadmap goes much further.
Future developments are expected to include:
- Lightning Network payments
- UTXO-based swaps and assets
- Support for additional Bitcoin protocols
- Expanded interoperability
- New Nervos ecosystem features
- Continued improvements to usability and wallet security
Our goal is not to add technology for its own sake. We want to deliver practical functionality that makes Bitcoin and Nervos genuinely easier to use.
CKBull helped establish that experience within Nervos. Bitcoin Light takes the same commitment into a broader future.
